Brauhaus Neckarsulm has received multiple awards for its beers. No wonder, because here, fermentation cooling and cooling processes are not left to chance – but to LiquoSystems!
What the people of Neckarsulm attach great importance to is the correct pronunciation of their city’s name. Because those unfamiliar with the area often say Neckars-Ulm. Wrong! Because here, the Sulm flows into the Neckar, and therefore, the people of Neckarsulm would like both syllables to be pronounced as one word. Now that this has been clarified, we can move on to the main topic – the Red Racer.
The “Red Racer”
Anyone who immediately thinks of a sleek car with four rings on the grille, which is traditionally built here, is wrong again. It’s about beer. More precisely, it’s about delicious brew from the microbrewery at Brauhaus Neckarsulm. Master brewer Karl Gruhler, in the industry since 1985, brews the “Red Racer” here, among other beers, together with his apprentice. This is a naturally cloudy, bottom-fermented lager – mild and less hopped. A true delight for beer lovers. “The slightly dark red beer is particularly popular with the ladies who come to the brewery”, reveals Master Brewer Gruhler. He has been practicing his craft at the brewery since 2001 – already having received multiple awards. The brewery produces Kellerpils, Hefeweizen, and seasonal beers again and again.
Fermentation Control and Cooling System
To ensure beer quality remains consistently high, the perfect fermentation process is, of course, essential. Cooling is crucial. Because it’s the yeast that causes a significant temperature increase in the fermentation tank. During fermentation, Gruhler and his apprentice maintain the temperature at around ten degrees Celsius – depending on the variety. The storage temperature is between two and four degrees Celsius. After the original cooling control system became outdated and inefficient, Brauhaus Neckarsulm brought in the expertise of LiquoSystems.
“The new central control system with touchscreen is very convenient. I also use it constantly via my smartphone,” raves Master Brewer Gruhler. The solenoid valves were replaced with motorized ball valves. This makes the coolant flow more constant and resistance-free. “There are no more problems,” says Karl Gruhler, who also welcomes the fact that the valve now indicates whether it is open. Also new are the recipe management and the permanent documentation of the refrigeration cycle during brewing and in the cold storage. And so that no one in car-loving Neckarsulm forgets: Don’t drink and drive!
