The Risks of CO2
There is no reason to expose yourself to the risk of dangerous levels of CO2! Even a slight increase in CO2 concentration in the air is dangerous for humans. Normal outdoor air has an average CO2 concentration of only 0.04%. At a concentration of 1.5% CO2, humans react with an increased heart rate; at 4% CO2, there is an immediate danger to life and health (IDLH).
As CO2 is increasingly generated or used in various applications, people are at risk of inhaling CO2 concentrations above the IDLH (Immediate Danger to Life and Health) value in their daily lives, at work, and during leisure time. For example, fermentation gases in wineries and breweries, or in restaurants and pubs where carbonated soft drinks are dispensed.
To avoid accidents, employers and employees must be aware of the risks of working with CO2 gas, be able to recognize early symptoms, and be protected by a fixed or portable CO2 safety system.
Based on the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) “Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards”, common symptoms of CO2 exposure include dizziness, headaches, poor sleep, fatigue, anxiety, eye changes, coronary heart disease, gastritis, kidney and liver damage, eye and skin burns, and skin inflammation. These symptoms only occur if the NIOSH-standard recommended exposure limit (REL) and/or the OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) permissible exposure limit (PEL) exceeds 5000 ppm.

CO2 Concentration in Fermentation Cellars
The carbon dioxide concentration in a room depends on the VOLUME of the room and the amount of CO2 released into it. In the fermentation cellar, CO2 accumulates in large quantities from the floor (as it is 1.5 times heavier than air). The CO2 must be reliably removed and exchanged with fresh air. Our gas warning systems can be used for this purpose. These systems offer concentration monitoring and warnings for excessively high values. Additionally, a contact can be provided to control a ventilation system.

The Mk9 Safety System for Breweries and Wineries. The simple, scalable solution for larger and smaller operations. The LogiCO2 Mk9 system is the most cost-effective and flexible system on the market. For example, a microbrewery can be equipped with standalone sensors, and thanks to our plug-&-play extra sets, the safety system can grow with your brewery. A larger brewery can be equipped with a combination of CO2 and O2 sensors, all connected to a cloud-based computer program where values from different areas of the facility can be continuously monitored.
