More than 2,100 winegrowers, over 1,200 hectares of vineyards: Winzergemeinschaft Franken eG (GWF) is one of Germany’s six largest winegrowers’ cooperatives. GWF is based in Kitzingen, Lower Franconia, in the district of the same name. Around 300 tanks are equipped with LiquoSystems technology.
The cooperative is based throughout the Franconian wine region: Between Spessart and Steigerwald, Saaletal and Tauberfranken, members cultivate their vineyards. Founded in 1959, premium wines have since been produced in renowned Franconian vineyards. The catchment area of top sites is huge: from Großostheim to Zeil am Main and from Hammelburg to the Tauber Valley. The mild climate and mineral-rich soils in these regions offer the best conditions for enjoyable wines.
In addition to Silvaner in Bocksbeutel, the wine assortment includes all common Franconian grape varieties. Every wine region, every single vineyard, and every winegrower gives the wines their characteristic note. GWF wines regularly receive awards in numerous national and international wine competitions.
Christian Baumann is the Head Cellar Master. He has been on board since 1989 and is thoroughly familiar with wine as a cultural asset. Growing up in a winegrowing family, the vineyard was already his favorite playground as a child. It’s no coincidence that the technician for viticulture and cellar management also pursues his great passion as a sideline and practices viticulture himself.
20 Years of Collaboration with LiquoSystems
“Our collaboration with LiquoSystems has existed for over 20 years”, recalls Christian Baumann. “We very successfully rely on the controlled fermentation cooling of LiquoSystems’ Nano System. It is reliable, robust, and easily visualizable.” LiquoSystems is a steadfast partner to GWF in both fermentation monitoring and valve control. Cellar Master Christian Baumann is pleased to be able to use the latest version of the cooling control system: “My team can log in via PC at any time. In the cellar, we operate the terminal via touch-screen. We can instantly retrieve any required information with just a few clicks.”
300 tanks are equipped with LiquoSystems technology. The direct display and modification of the fermentation temperature at each individual tank via Nano Top is additionally enabled by access through the central Nano Terminal control and via web interface via PC. This promises a complete overview of the fermentation cellar at the click of a mouse.
